Valerie Lynne Slightam
Slightam Valerie Lynne Slightam age 79, passed away Friday, March 7, 2025 in Ft. Mohave, Arizona. She was born November 6, 1945 in Miami, Florida to Gerald B Chambers and Shirley Beatrice Verdon.
She traveled with her parents for over 20 years while her father Gerald was in the Air Force. They were stationed in Alaska, Hawaii, and several other air force bases before she settled in Seattle, Washington in 1965.
Valerie worked as a school bus driver for over 25 years while raising her 3 children by herself. In 1992 while working she was introduced to Richard (Rick) Slightam by his sister. Meeting Valeries oldest son Daron was something I had concerns about. But that meeting was great for Valerie and myself. He said I was a keeper (as a fisherman would say) small things mean a lot. He’s been a pal ever since. Everyone who ever met her left her happier (me too).
Valerie and Richard married on June 17, 1993. I never thought there was anyone like Valerie, a dream come true, a perfect mate for me (she thought so too). We traveled many places together around the world (another dream come true). After we both retired, traveling 6 months of the year in the winter to Florida, seeing many attractions we cared about.
Before her passing, Valerie was dreaming about her uncle Ellis. Her dream was her uncle telling her she’s coming soon. The next day she talked to her uncle she said I’m coming very soon. She passed 5 hours later.
She is preceded in death by her parents; mother, Shirley Chambers; step mother, Betty Chambers; grandson, Matthew.
Valerie is survived by her father, Gerald Chambers of Oklahoma City, OK; husband Richard Slightam of the home; children, Kenneth Daren Lloyd of North Pole, AK, Brad Lloyd of Puyallup, WA, Sheri Flannery of Payallup, WA; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Ernie Chambers and wife Rhonda of Edmond, OK; aunt, Velva Talley of Oklahoma City, OK, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
