Robert McDonald
McDonald Robert Glenn McDonald, lovingly known to family and friends as Rob, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. at the age of 60.
Born on September 15, 1964, in Prague, Oklahoma, to Phillip McDonald and Donna Ruth Horne. Rob led a life marked by dedication, joy, and the love of his family. He was a cherished son, devoted companion, and friend to the many who knew him.
Rob grew up under the watchful eyes of his parents and spent his formative years in the company of his grandparents, Virgie and Grady McDonald and Bill and Ruth Horne; whose memories he held close to his heart always. Rob’s life was further enriched by the companionship of Linda Wilder, who shared his passions and joys; and his stepmother Jan McDonald, who sat by his side during his final days.
Rob was a proud graduate of Marlow High School and carried the spirit of his hometown throughout his life. His work as a Land Man for the Oil and Gas Industry was more than just a career; it was a testament to his commitment to the community and land he so deeply cherished. His professional endeavors were paralleled by an active involvement in industry associations, where he made significant contributions through his expertise and collaborative spirit.
Beyond his professional life, Rob was a man of many interests and found pleasure in simple thingsplaying golf or pool, going out to eat, savoring good music and attending concerts. He even met a few celebrities during his travels such as Tina Turner, Derek Trucks and Charlie Pride.
Rob’s passion for life extended to his love for the countryside. He often spent his free time driving through vast, open landscapes, taking in the natural beauty of the world; quiet moments of reflection that were a source of peace and happiness for him. His favorite vacation spot was Hot Springs, Arkansas where he met many friends with whom he stayed in touch for over 30 years.
Rob would spasmodically do something considered a prank or caper that would backfire on him and his target was unable to comprehend; the humor was quite the escapade.
Rob’s moments of enjoyment were amplified when he shared them with his family, the cornerstone of his world. His love for them was evident in the time he dedicated to being with them and creating loving, lasting memories that they will forever treasure.
Rob is preceded in death by his mother, Donna Ruth Horne; his grandparents, Virgie and Grady McDonald and Bill and Ruth Horne; good friends David Garner, Bob and Linda Glasgow, Lee and Vickie Langdom; and his lifelong friend Jim Ramsey and Family. Each of these individuals played a significant role in his life, shaping the man he became.
Rob is survived by his father and stepmother, Phillip and Janice McDonald; his beloved companion Linda Wilder; and his adopted grandsons Marshall and Lawson Avens.
As we remember Rob, we reflect on a life well lived and filled with laughter, music and the warmth of shared experiences. He was a man who embraced life’s journey with an open hear and a generous spirit. His presence will be deeply missed by all who have had the privilege of knowing him.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka. Services are under the direction of Callaway- Smith-Cobb Funeral Home of Marlow, Oklahoma.
