DEAR ABBY: I have a wonderful 12-yearold son, “Oliver,” who was conceived during a date rape at a work party. I don’t remember much about that night. When I found out I was pregnant, I hoped my husband at the time was the father. When the baby came, it was obvious he wasn’t, because Oliver is a different race. (I am Caucasian, and I’m thinking Oliver may be Pacific Islander.)

Read moreI can relate to this verse since the time I was growing up we lived by big lakes in Texas and Oklahoma. Sometimes on weekends, Daddy would load up the car with Mom and us 5 kids and we’d go to some big lake or large pond and go swimming, fishing, riding in the boat when we had one, or just playing around the water. Even though I was the only one who never learned to swim, I learned to water ski on Wewoka Lake. I wasn’t scared to learn because I trusted my dad. To be around water always has soothed my soul.

First, second and third place winners from primary through ninth grade levels were named. Showing the winning posters, in order of placement were: Primary special education: 1 – Joey Deer; 2 – David McCowan; 3 – Jami Tainpeah, all of Central School, Seminole. First – third grade: 1 – Bobby Sparks; 2 – Lori Ann Pease; 3 – Cheryl Keiser, all of Woodrow Wilson School, Seminole. Fourth – sixth grade: 1 – Randolph Coody, sixth grade, Konawa; 2 Jana Norman, Roosevelt School, Seminole; 3 – Dean Robertson, fourth grade, Justice School. Seventh – ninth grade: 1 – Karen Cox, eighth grade, Konawa Jr. High; 2 – Steven Carlson, seventh grade, Central School, Seminole; 3 – Bonnie Lena, eighth grade, Justice School. There was no category covering the special education classes, but judges commented that the posters were “excellent and should receive recognition.” The contest was sponsored by the Oklahoma Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases Association and other co-sponsors. County winner’s posters will now be sent to the state contest for judging.
