The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index fell by 2.1 points in February to 100.7. This is the fourth consecutive month above the 51-year average of 98 and is 4.4 points below its most recent peak of 105.1 in December. The Uncertainty Index rose four points to 104 – the second highest recorded reading.

A group of area educational leaders from has formed a coalition aimed at strengthening workforce development and creating educational pathways from high school through college. The coalition, known as the Education Coalition, began meeting in July 2024 and convenes monthly to discuss collaborative efforts. The group includes Lana Reynolds, president of Seminole State College; Dr. Heath A. Thomas, president of Oklahoma Baptist University; Julie McCormick, superintendent of Gordon Cooper Technology Center; Dr. Teresa Wilkerson, interim superintendent of Shawnee Public Schools and Crystal Romanyszyn, CEO of Shawnee Forward.
